GS1 certifies Nichol for rail’s Project i-TRACE barcoding

Project i-TRACE, a joint initiative between the ARA and GS1 Australia, involves using GS1 global data standards to capture data relating to all assets and materials in the rail industry, ensuring there is a strong foundation upon which the rail industry can build its digital capabilities.
Using a common, standards-based approach to identify and mark materials is critical across a range of areas. It will improve efficiency, lower costs and deliver better customer service by achieving more consistent object identification.
The first step for success in implementing Project i-TRACE is to uniquely identify and barcode or mark products.
GS1 Australia is pleased to announce that Nichol Industries is the first solution provider to achieve GS1 certification for barcoding for Project i-TRACE. The certification is granted when samples provided meet the data and label/plate requirements of Project i-TRACE as specified in the Australian Rail AIDC Guideline.
“We have been providing marking solutions to various industries for over 60 years. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise with GS1, the ARA and the rail industry on the implementing this important initiative” said Adam Nichol, Managing Director at Nichol industries.
The rail industry involves a huge number and variety of parts. Nichol was successful in achieving certification due to their broad range of marking solutions along with a detailed understanding of the Project i – TRACE requirements. Their solutions include laser marking machines, Dot Peen marking machines, labels, and tags, as well as scanners and readers.
Michiel Ruighaver, Senior Account Manager – GS1 Australia said, “we are very excited to have Nichol be the first solution provider to be certified for Project i-TRACE barcoding. By using a certified solution provider, suppliers can rest assured that their parts and components will be marked according to the Rail Guidelines for implementing GS1 standards.”
To assist the industry with implementation Nichol has provided online resources such as starter packs and a product selector.
